Season
Spring (April-May) and Fall (September-October) are prime seasons, with good fishing possible throughout the summer.
The elusive Brown Trout offers a challenging and rewarding fly-fishing experience, known for its cunning and powerful runs.
Brown Trout fishing in the Au Sable River is best during the spring and fall months, with excellent opportunities for large fish. Anglers typically use a 5-weight to 7-weight fly rod to target these wary predators in a variety of water conditions.
Brown Trout, also known as 'brownies,' are a favorite among anglers for their size and fight. They are opportunistic feeders, readily taking a wide range of flies that imitate insects, baitfish, and crustaceans. Their behavior is often characterized by a preference for deeper pools and undercut banks, where they can ambush prey. During the fall, they become particularly aggressive as they prepare to spawn, making them an exciting target. We often find them holding in current seams and along structure, requiring stealthy approaches and accurate presentations.

The best times are spring and fall. Spring offers pre-spawn and post-spawn feeding opportunities, while fall sees increased aggression as they prepare for spawning.
